What Is IDPA?
International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) shooting as a sport is the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in Defensive Pistol events are required to use practical handguns (typical production revolvers or semi-auto pistols - .38Sp/9mm or larger) and holsters that are suitable for self-defense use. The main goal is to test the skill and ability of an individual, not his or her equipment.

After running another year of successful re-certification testing, we are adopting a new approach for you to maintain your certification status. We recommend that during the 180 days prior to your SO expiration date, that you take the online test. Once you renew your SO status, your certification expiration date will be adjusted. This will be reflected on the website and will show on your new card when you renew your membership. If you miss your testing within the required window, the website will drop your SO status automatically. If you wait longer than 30 days to test after your certification lapses, you will be required to attend another SO class taught by an SOI. We have attached a link below for you to recertify. If you have any questions please contact your Area Coordinator or Headquarters. Safety Officers and Chief Safety Officers please use this link to recertify:http://www.idpa.com/misc/ Additionally, those who recertified in 2015 will be receiving a membership card with an updated SO expiration date in the mail shortly.
