Venturing Crew 270 is a co-ed youth development organization for young men and women, ages 14 through 20 (or 13 and completed the 8th grade), who want opportunities to explore the outdoors, develop character, and perform community service. Venturing is a program of the Boy Scouts of America and Venturing Crew 270 is chartered (owned) by the Thurmont Conservation & Sportsman's Club, Inc.
Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.
Our regular activities include but are not limited to:
- Meeting and program on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month at 6:00 p.m. We currently meet in the Clubhouse of the Sportsman's Club (11617 Hunt Club Rd.) in Thurmont.
- At least one outdoor adventure, activity or training activity per month.
- Occasional community service projects.
